What if Everyone at Barrington Read the Same Book?

The Barrington Book is a schoolwide read-along designed to promote community through the shared experience of reading a good book.  Participating families read the same story at home over the course of a few weeks.  In addition, students have a chance to answer book-related trivia questions.  Correct trivia answers are included in a prize raffle each week.  It is our hope that this is an enjoyable family activity and helps build a strong community of readers in our school.

The PTO is excited to announce that the 2020-2021 Barrington Book is:

The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate

We hope you’ll join us on a journey with Ivan, a gorilla captured in the wild as an infant and sentenced to live the rest of his life as the main attraction at a shopping mall circus.  Ivan has seemingly accepted his fate of living within the confines of his cage and making artwork for the gift shop, with fading memories of what his life in the jungle was like.  However, the arrival of a new baby elephant, Ruby, to the mall leaves Ivan with an awareness of his own empowerment, and a determination to use his art in order to keep his promise to give Ruby a better life.  Learn more about The One and Only Ivan by watching the book trailer here.
