Spelling Bee

bee1st – 3rd Grade Spelling Bee

Barrington Elementary Gym

We’ve done our best to remove the frightening and/or awkward aspects of old-fashioned spelling bees.  In our format, participants are seated in a semi-circle facing a table of friendly announcers and judges, and facing away from the audience of parents, siblings and friends.  Spelling words and example sentences are appropriate for this age group, and the list has been scrubbed to remove homonyms.

Students who successfully spell through five rounds are eligible to participate in the 4th and 5th Grade Spelling Bee on January 18th.

Online Registration will begin December 12th. Registration for Grades 1-3 will close January 10th. Registration for Grades 4-5 will close January 17th.  Please complete the online Spelling Bee Registration form to register for the event.

While observing all of the official rules and regulations of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, our school employs the student-friendly format of the K-3rd Grade Bee to promote wide participation and eliminate as much intimidation as possible.  Participating students are seated in a semi-circle facing away from the audience and toward the friendly panel of announcers and judges.

The word list used at this Bee is appropriately challenging and not available to students to study ahead of time. Please view 2017 School Spelling Bee List for a comparable list of words.

First place winner will receive a trophy, and the winner of this bee will be eligible to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee.

Online Registration will begin December 12th  and will close starting January 10th  (Grades 1-3) and January 17th (Grades 4-5). Please complete the online Spelling Bee Registration form to register for the event.
