Poetry: Terror

“Terror”
by Emily, grade 5

Our warriors were crouched in the bushes,

Awaiting the whites.

I saw my first glimpse of white people as they entered, the small clearing.

The deafening silence was shattered by the first gunshot.

BAM!

Full war broke out.  I thought for sure our fearsome warriors would win.

I waited with my younger sister.

We trembled as we heard the sound of war.

When the last gunshot sounded now cries of victory sounded.

I desperately ran through the small row of woods to the clearing.

The trees reached out and harshly clawed my face.

The wind seemed to taunt me.

The overwhelming sadness was a shadow filled forest.

I was lost and alone.

The End.
