What are the PTO bylaws?

The PTO bylaws can be viewed as a PDF document by clicking this link.

Who belongs to the PTO?

All Barrington families are encouraged to join the PTO. This is your group and the forum where you can express opinions on school issues, programs and school related activities. It is also your opportunity to become involved in the many activities which are sponsored by the PTO for the benefit of the school and its students. The faculty is also encouraged to join.

Who is in charge of the PTO?

The PTO is led by the PTO Executive Board, which consists of the PTO Executive Committee? The Principal and teacher representatives. Day-to-day functions of the PTO are conducted by the President, President Elect, Treasurer, Treasurer Elect and Secretary.

The PTO’s officers are elected in the spring and parent volunteer to serve as chairs and chairs-elects for various committees. Any parent who is a member of the PTO may serve on the board.

When does the PTO meet?

PTO meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. or during the school’s lunch hour from 11:05-12:05 p.m. to allow both teachers and parents to attend. The PTO Executive Committee meets monthly. Additionally, the PTO holds occasional General Membership meetings in the evenings, see school calendar for more specific dates and times.

Who pays for the PTO?

There is a nominal family fee for PTO membership. The dues are paid at the beginning of each school year. One copy of the annual student directory is provided with paid PTO membership. The PTO also sponsors various annual fund raisers.

Why does the PTO have other fund raisers?

The PTO pays for many of the activities that benefit students such as the Cultural Arts Committee, Field Days, and Recess Toys. Additionally, the PTO purchases computers, playground equipment, books and many other supplies. Every teacher is given an annual mini-grant, totaling over $16,000 to be used at their discretion.

Several of PTO’s fund raisers provide social gatherings for both students and parents alike, such as Clown Around.

Why should I join the PTO?

It is important for all parents to have an avenue for input to the school. It is also important for children to see that their parents care enough about their children to be involved. This demonstrates to the children, that we all have an investment in our school community.

The PTO needs your help in many ways. Our program and projects require hundreds of volunteer hours and a variety of skills. Admittedly, all of us have busy lives. However, if everyone helps just a small amount, the job gets done! The satisfaction is enormous.
