Barrington Festival of Cultures
Tuesday, February 7th beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Families, or groups of friends, sign up (using the form below) to represent any country with a tri-fold display and a “20 Second Tour”. Displays will be set up in the gym and participants and visitors will peruse different countries and earn a stamp in their passport.
The Display
Each display should include at least:
1. The name of the country and the creators’ names featured prominently
2. A continent map with your country colored in
3. A drawing or picture of the country’s flag (or an actual flag)
“20 Second Tour”
Your friends and some visitors will stop by your display to learn more about your country. Be ready to share a few of the most interesting aspects of your country. You can point out particular things in your display or give new information.
Get creative! Incorporate information, art, and/or technology in your display or tour. Here are just a few ideas (pick and choose as many as you like):
Facts, pictures, drawings about:
- Common native language terms such as “Hello” and “How are you?” etc.
- The major national holidays and how they are celebrated
- The country’s most interesting historical figures, artists, musicians and scientists
- Favorite foods
- National sports or other pastimes
- The words to the national anthem
- Major historical events or accomplishments
- Noteworthy landforms/bodies of water
- Top tourism sites
- The country’s currency (money)
- National symbols
- Top natural resources and/or crops
- The major industries or exports
You could also:
- Make and share a traditional food from your country
- Bring an iPod and play music from your country
- Construct a model of a notable site, building or landform
- Make a video or PowerPoint presentation about your country
- Dress up in a traditional costume of the country
Please choose whichever country you are most interested in representing. There may be more than one display for a particular country and that is fine – no two displays will be alike.
If your family would like to create more than one display, please make a form entry for each country.
You do not have to attend the event to have your display included. If you would like to research a country and create a display but cannot be there on February 7th, e-mail Academic.Enrichment@gmail.com to make arrangements to have your display setup and taken down for you.
