About PTO

Who belongs to the PTO?

All Barrington families are encouraged to join the PTO. Join HERE.

This is your group and the forum where you can express opinions on school issues, programs and school related activities. It is also your opportunity to become involved in the many activities which are sponsored by the PTO for the benefit of the school and its students. The faculty is also encouraged to join.

Why should I join the PTO?

It is important for all parents to have an avenue for input to the school. It is also important for children to see parental support. We all have an investment in our school community.

The PTO needs your help in many ways. Our program and projects require hundreds of volunteer hours and a variety of skills. Admittedly, all of us have busy lives. However, if everyone helps just a small amount, the job gets done! The satisfaction is enormous.

Who is in charge of the PTO?

The PTO is led by the PTO Executive Board, which consists of the PTO Executive Committee, the Principal and teacher representatives. Day-to-day functions of the PTO are conducted by the President, President Elect, Treasurer, Treasurer Elect and Secretary.

The PTO’s officers are elected in the spring and parent volunteers serve as chairs and chairs-elects for various committees. Any parent who is a member of the PTO may serve on the board.

When does the PTO meet?

The general PTO meetings are held during the school day or at 7:00pm. The time for these 3 general meetings will be communicated via email to all members of the PTO community. The PTO Executive Committee meets monthly.

Who pays for the PTO?

There is a nominal family fee for PTO membership. The dues are paid at the beginning of each school year. A paper copy of the student directory can be requested when paying for a PTO membership.

Why does the PTO have other fund raisers?

The PTO pays for many of the activities that benefit students such as Field Days, recess toys, technology, playground equipment, classroom furniture, books and many other supplies. Additionally, each teacher is eligible to receive up to $150 reimbursement from the PTO for additional classroom supplies purchased by the teacher.  Several of PTO’s fund raisers provide social gatherings for both students and parents alike, such as Clown Around and Family Fun Night.
