The Staff Appreciation Committee is busy planning a week full of fun events for the staff members at Barrington.  Barrington Staff Appreciation Week will take place Monday, May 7th ~ Friday, May 11th.

Like last year, our focus is to show appreciation to all those that work at Barrington, not just those teaching in the classroom.  The week’s events are detailed below.  We hope you can help with the few items listed in bold.

Monday, May 7th:

Please have each student write a quick note or letter showing their appreciation to teachers and/or staff members.  They can draw a picture, write a poem or make a craft.  Students can drop their notes into the envelopes that will be placed on all doors (the envelopes will stay up all week).   Write more than one…don’t forget the special area teachers, Mr. Fine, Mrs. Ullum and more!

Tuesday, May 8th:

Snack Cart!  During the afternoon, the committee will travel door-to-door and deliver a variety of fun snacks to the staff.

Wednesday, May 9th:

We ask each student to bring TWO fresh flowers to school.  One flower will be used to create a bouquet for the teacher and the other will be used to create arrangements for other staff members.

Thursday, May 10th:

Dinner will be provided for each teacher by the wonderful parents who offered to cook this special meal!

Friday, May 11th:

The Staff Appreciation Committee will host a catered luncheon for the entire staff.  A special thank you to Bravo in Lennox for donating this lunch for our staff!

Thank you so much for your help in making this a great week for our teachers and staff members.  Last year, they were overwhelmed with our week long celebration.  Let’s make it another great year!

Walk-In Movie Night will be at Jones Middle School auditorium to celebrate walking and biking to school this spring!

Wednesday, May 9 is National Bike to School Day! Let’s “Stack the Rack” at Barrington by riding your bike to school!

Remember these points for a safe ride to school:

Wear your helmet: covering your forehead with a snug strap.
Ride on the right side of the street. Kids can ride on the sidewalk.
Ride as if cars do not see you.
Bikers always yield to walkers.
Walk then lock your bike on school property.

The school supply sale will be completely online this year. Orders are being accepted now through June 30. Click on the School Supplies menu to get information on how things will work!

Mark Your Calendar: Three local restaurants have offered to host fundraisers for us this spring.  Please join us as we support a local business and your child’s school!  All you need to do is mention “Barrington PTO” when you order on the following dates and we will receive a portion of the profits.

Watch for your child’s Walking Passport and a chain to come home Tuesday, March 27.  Please help your child attach it to the outside of their backpack before our first Walking Wednesday, March 28.  Also, please write their name on the back of the passport with a sharpie.  Parent volunteers will punch the passports as your child enters school grounds.  Additional parents will be near the courtyard entrance to catch kids we missed.

The Academic Enrichment Committee of the Barrington PTO is asking children to contribute their original poetry for a Poetry Page on this website.  Poems will be identified by the child’s first name and grade.

Children can submit their poems, whether written for class or on their own,  by placing them in the Poetry Page folder in the office.  Currently, the plan is to add new poems to the web site once a month.

Toward the end of the year, the committee plans to print the poems in a Barrington poetry anthology.

Your child can show his/her school spirit this year on the first Friday of each month.  Spirit wear is still available!  If you would like to purchase a new item, please contact Cyndi Plagenz or Robin Carlton.

Welcome to the Barrington Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) website. The main goal of the PTO is to provide support and enhancement for Barrington Elementary. This is done through a variety of educational, social and service events. The PTO at Barrington is a dynamic and proactive group that welcomes participation at any level.
